In the past position, we have the knight of pentacles. Pentacles representing earthly affairs and money, I see him facing forward thinking about his money situation. He seems pleased enough.
The second card, representing the future, is a card of celebration. There’s also the Chuppah in the foreground, suggesting marriage or union. Perhaps you and a partner are celebrating your financial situation.
It seems significant than that The Hermit, the future card, is alone. He’s looking down at his past. His garb is drab. There’s nothing about his demeanor that suggests celebration. I’d take this as a cautionary reading – if you’re not careful, your financial abundance may not last. Be sure to set some money aside for less-flush occasions.
As I was typing this up, I thought of another reading of it – our knight may have recently been looking forward to earthly delights. Now you’re with a partner and you’re very happy together. Watch out though, because one day you’ll be alone looking back on these times. It doesn’t give any indication whether the hermit is remembering them fondly or sadly. Do what you can now to make sure these days are happy even in retrospect. Treat your partner well.
Either way you read it – and I say this as someone who very much enjoys some time alone – the hermit reads to me as a warning. There’s no indication of when this future will come to pass. The future isn’t set in stone, it may never come to be at all. Keep your eyes on where you want to be.
